Fashion Friday

This is a wishful thinking Fashion Friday, one in which I ponder how much I would love to be able to both afford and carry off a leather dress like this. ;)

I mean, come on. It's fierce!

German Chocolate Oh My Word

Image via The Budget Diet

There are some goodies that don't need a particular season. Or event. Or excuse. This, my friends, is the German chocolate gooey butter cake.

It all starts with a Paula Deen recipe, so you already know it will be amazing and that it will contain far more butter than the average person should consume within, oh, say, a week's time.

Then you go all super chef and make it German chocolate with coconut and chocolate chips.

It. Is. A. Delight.

Also, it is a calorific treat, so if you're counting, you might want to pretend this never happened. ;)

Gooey Butter Cake (Basic Recipe)

  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 stick butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 8 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Mix together cake mix, melted butter, 1 egg and water until combined.
  3. Press into a 9 x 13 greased pan.
  4. Mix together softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, 2 eggs and vanilla until smooth.
  5. Pour over cake mixture.
  6. Bake 35 – 40 minutes at 350 or until lightly browned.

To German chocolate it up, use German chocolate cake mix for the base. Press 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips, 1 cup chopped pecans, and 1 cup coconut into the cake mix layer before topping with the cream cheese mixture. (Recipe via Kristl Story at The Budget Diet)

'Tis the (goodie) season!

It's that time of the year! I'm a big fan of holiday traditions, and making homemade goodies to dole out among loved ones is one of my favorites.

Also ranking high on the list? Eating those goodies. ;)

Fashion Friday

I've said this before, but there's something about kelly green that makes me want to pair it with brown, which, in turn, makes me feel like Robin Hood.

Life Hacks.

Ever since Pinterest started consuming way too much of my time, I've noticed 'life hacks' circulating the interwebs. If you're unfamiliar with the term, well, let me school you. ;)

They're basically simple, creative solutions to normal issues. Like so:

They fascinate me. They inspire me. They make me feel like I'm a common sense ninja.

I mean, seriously? Who knows this stuff besides MacGyver (and the other few million people who have seen this pin)?

Some of them make me feel really dumb (why haven't I thought of that?!?)

Some of them don't work. (My headlights, after a vigorous brushing, still have a little haze around the edges).

Some of them are way too time consuming. Yeah, probably not gonna do that. ;)

Some of them probably shouldn't be common knowledge.

I still love reading them, though. And I'm proud to say that - when I remember - I've tested several of these life hacks on my own.

Like a boss common sense ninja. :)

So... Do you have any life hacks of your own?

Fashion Friday, Black Friday Edition.

If you've been reading the blog long, you'll know I'm generally against hoodies in public and definitely against leggings as pants.

But it's black Friday, y'all.

The Shiny!

Today? Oh, today I'm just wracking my brain trying to figure out how I can wallpaper our whole house with this wallpaper from Design Your Wall.

I love pretty hair.

I love having pretty hair.

What I don't love is making the time to have pretty hair on a constant basis.

Fashion Friday

Sometimes I'm totally uninspired by my closet.

Pinterest usually helps with that.

This outfit is a total knockoff. Well, not total. Just, you know, eerily similar. But really, the famous on Pinterest girl has WAY smaller thighs than I do, so it looks totally different. ;)

I do love my boots, though - I seriously can't get enough of this gorgeous cognac leather. I would rub my face on them daily if I didn't fear germs so much. ;)

Happy Friday!

Thumbprints in the wind.

Let's talk about this thumbprint trend, shall we?

Jill of some trades.

The changing of the seasons is always invigorating to me. It's like a new chance, a fresh start. I'm a fall and spring type of gal, for that reason - I love change. I revel in new beginnings.

(Please note, in south Texas, the season is still changing. It's not really winter until, oh, say, January. Therefore, this is changing weather, even if you have snow at your house right now. [and if you DO have snow, please share!])

Fashion Friday

I would be derelict in my duties if I failed to inform you that I normally HATE black, white, and red.

The colors are fine. They go well together. They're generally accepted as a classy, timeless triad of colors. They're the world's most popular wedding colors since forever began.

Mad chops.

(Image from Coco+Kelly via Pinterest)

You're probably thinking this has nothing to do with, well, anything, but sweet nephew R calls his sidewalk chalks 'chops', which leads us, his oh-so-mature aunt and uncle, to make entirely too many puns based on the word 'chops'.

Put a little love in your cup.

File this under 'duh, why didn't I think of that?!'

Ann Marie of White House, Black Shutters posted a recipe for a salted caramel mocha using Starbucks' syrup, because yep, you can buy it by the bottle for $7.95!

You can imagine what I'll be making once I can afford more than, oh, say, zero calories for a beverage.

Holla at me over by the water fountain. ;)

The One Where I Cheat On My Diet.

I'm currently in the throes of extreme weight loss, Rache edition, since I really need to be able to fit into at least one of my winter coats, but this recipe is seriously messing with me.

I am a caramel FANATIC. It's flavor is so full and warm - complete and total melt-on-your-tongue satisfaction.

Since I can't have any right now (this is me being hardcore, after all!), I'm sharing the recipe with you.

 You'll thank me later. :D

If I could just keep up with _______, I'd be good.

I should be better at ________.

 I wish I ________.

With a life as crazy and scattered as mine, I should be way too busy living to dwell on negative thoughts. Seriously. I've been too busy to empty the dishwasher for 3 days.

But the truth is, I do.

Fashion Friday

It's our anniversary - 2 years of wedded bliss(in the making)!

As you might imagine, I am snookering my husband into taking me to a nice dinner, at which we will wear somewhat dressy attire and use more than one fork.

All in the name of love, you understand. ;)

Also, I really like to see my honey in a suit!

Happy Friday!

Fashion Friday

I'm a huge fan of peplum. The style naturally hides some problem areas for me (hello, hips and tummy that won't lay flat!) so I was super giddy when I unpacked a box and found a white peplum top with the tags on it. I mean, HELLO AWESOME!

Also, how ridiculous is it that I have had boxes packed for so long I don't recognize their contents? I mean, is it my memory failing? Is it the aluminum baking pans? IS IT THE COOKIES?!?

It's getting too real in here. I'm going to have to leave that trail alone. ;)

Happy Friday!
